Official WWSG Petition
Mike, 6/7/2007 02:10:11 AM
Greetings WWSG Readers!
I'd like to ask your help with something. We all know that Justin has a concert addiction. There's no curing it, we can only hope to feed it. This summer, he will no doubt go to Lollapalooza in Chicago, Live Earth in NJ, and the Warped Tour somewhere. But next week, he is denying a chance to kick off the summer festival season in style by not going to Bonnaroo. I submit the following reasons why he should go:
1) If he doesn't go this year, he's just going to have to go some other year and with air and concert ticket prices climbing by the day, the time to act is now
2) It's 4 days! Tough to top that.
3) Gogol Bordello is playing
4) He's never been to Tennessee.
5) Rumor has it Drive Shaft is playing a Charlie Pace tribute set
So please, next time you see him, ask him why he isn't going to Bonnaroo.

Ladies and Gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. I have the only gun on board. Welcome to Con Air.
Justin, 6/6/2007 02:21:57 PM
So today marks the tenth anniversary of one of my all-time favorite films...Con Air. I thought that this landmark moment should at least be acknowledged on this site that makes big deals out of the trivial. And so with that in mind, lets take a look at what the people behind the flick have been up to since this slam-bang action thriller hit the big screen.
Nicolas Cage AS Cameron Poe - Of course the star of Con Air has kept busy since his summer of action triumph (Face/Off hit the big screen just weeks later.) Movies since then include my least favorite movie of all-time, 8mm, Gone In 60 Seconds, the great National Treasure (the sequel of which is due out in December), and a turn as the eponymous Ghost Rider earlier this year. Plus he has mastered the most ridiculous silver screen hairdo's in Hollywood, in movies such as Next and his cameo as Fu Manchu in Grindhouse.
John Cusack AS US Marshal Vince Larkin - The erstwhile Lloyd Dobbler has put out screen gems such as High Fidelity and Serendipity. Quite frankly hes a golden god. Look forward to this summers 1408.
John Malkovich AS Cyrus "The Virus" - Good old John Malkovich hasn't really done shit since Con Air that was any good beyond his own Being John Malkovich. Well maybe Rounders. Last year alone he was in Art School Confidential and Eragon. Poor bastard.
Ving Rhames AS Nathan "Diamond Dog" Jones - Ving's storied career since Con Air includes both Mission:Impossible sequels, an appearance in Outkast's Idlewild, a stint shooting zombies in a mall in Day Of The Dead, a starring role on USA's aborted Kojak series, and voicing Cobra Bubbles in Lilo and Stitch. Good for him!
Steve Buscemi AS Garland "Marietta Mangler" Greene - Has continued being a great all around actor in such films as Armageddon, The Big Lebowski, and Big Fish. He's also become somewhat of an Adam Sandler pal working with him in Big Daddy, Mr. Deeds, and The Wedding Singer. Plus a season long recurring role on The Sopranos. But hes still a weird looking dude.
Dave Chappelle AS Dave "Pinball" Parker - You all know what Dave's been doing. Besides his hilarious Comedy Central show Dave also appeared in Half Baked, You've Got Mail, Blue Streak, and the underappreciated classic Screwed. And lost his mind.
Danny Trejo AS Johnny "Johnny 23" Baca - The great Danny Trejo has appeared in many great films since the great Con Air. Reindeer Games. xXx. Once Upon A Time In Mexico. Ancorman:The Legend Of Ron Burgundy. Bubble Boy. The list goes on and on. Look for him in his Grindhouse spinoff Machete, coming directly to DVD in 2008.
M.C. Gainey AS Swamp Thing - Character actor M.C. has been in The New Guy, Club Dread, Beerfest, Sideways, and Wild Hogs since he portrayed nutjob con pilot Swamp Thing in Con Air. But he has also portrayed Tom on Lost for the past two seasons, so who the fuck cares about the other stuff! Sadly though he was executed by Sawyer in the Season 3 finale because he took the kid off the raft.
Well there you have it ladies and gentleman. A look back over the last ten years of the brave cast of Con Air. All that and a plea for a sequel! Con Air 2, coming Summer 2009 are words I'm dying to hear.

1.I have to DJ a wedding next weekend.
2.I'm not into the whole hippy/camping out aspect of this kind of festival.
3.In fact I hate grassroots/jam bandy music pretty much altogether with the lone exception of DMB, which really, compared to some of the other bands playing this thing doesn't even jam all that much.
4.(most importantly)Of the 100 or so plus bands performing I don't really like any of them. In fact I only own 1 CD from the entire lineup, a Fountains Of Wayne CD that I've listened to maybe 3 times. Although Rx Bandits are playing and they rock live, this is not enough to get me to go. In fact I'm far more interested in their comedy tent, which will see performances from David Cross, Dave Attell, and Lewis Black among others.
So for all these reasons and more, I won't be attending Bonnaroo this summer. Not even if they added Kelly Clarkson and Brand New.
