Keri Russell's Pretty Hot
Justin, 5/31/2007 12:05:41 AM
So Mike's gone to San Jose, California for the Summer and I have to find ways to entertain myself. So I saw the movie Waitress... Pretty good actually. Anyways, after I did that I IMDB'ed Keri, cause like I said on the subject line shes pretty hot. Long story short, I end up wiki'ing Felicity and stuff and I discover...the last couple episodes of this college drama revolve around...Time Travel? Is this accurate? Can somebody explain this to me? And most importantly (well not really, but still), which Scott does she end up with? The dude from Underworld (Speedman)? Or the dude who played Elliot's boyfriend on Scrubs (Foley). Actually both Keri and Foley played Elliot's something on Scrubs I guess. Ben or Noel?
Obviously this is an odd question from someone who watched like 2 episodes of this show 6 years ago. And I distinctly remember running upstairs to vomit while people were watching one of the aforementioned episodes in my house at college. But thats neither here nor there. I'm going to go upstairs now...but to watch Scrubs. Not to throw up.

Mike, 5/20/2007 01:13:24 PM
Justin and I are back from our non-road trip through various towns and ballfields in America. Here are the photos:
http://wwsg.dyndns.org:81/~gallery2/main.php?g2_itemId=15

I'm sure Justin will post a more detailed account of the proceedings, but here is the rough itinerary:
Minneapolis - San Diego - LA - San Francisco
The how and the why are our concern and ours alone.

To warm things up, I present my list of unexpected events that occurred during the trip:

1. Hilton airport shuttle driver in Minneapolis knew who we were without any indication from us.

2. Twins game fan trivia during the game asked a fan to guess the distance between the HHH Metrodome and Citzens Bank Park. Answer: 980 miles. Did she get it right? No even close.

3. San Diego is freezing on Monday night! Padres merch needs to be purchased to stay warm.

4. Knott's Berry Farm is empty on a Tuesday afternoon. The Happiest Day of My Life begins upon seeing no line for the Silver Bullet rollercoaster.

5. The first In-and-Out Burger I've ever been to is literally on fire when I get there. (We do eat there 15 minutes later after the firemen give the all clear)

6. Seeing Breckin Meyer eating in Nate and Al's deli in Beverly Hills.

7. Macys is the top attraction in San Francisco's Union Square (where's the stuff?)

8. I buy a Dropkick Murphys hoodie to stay warm (and because it's on sale and looks awesome). Justin walks around with me wearing a Boston Red Sox hat while my hoodie has "Shippin' off to Boston" emblazoned on it.

9. San Francisco contains, within a 1/2 mile radius, perhaps the best food court (San Francisco Shopping Center - Westfield Mall), the best cd/dvd store (Rasputin Music), and the best comic shop (Things From Another World).

10. We see The 300 again.

11. Beard Papa (http://www.muginohousa.com/), a bakery with an amazing corporate logo sells no merch.

12. We walk into 3 different Urban Outfitters on the journey.

    Rollercoaster Rehash
    Mike, 5/20/2007 09:11:07 PM
    Here's some more rollercoaster reviews:

    Mall of America Theme Park:
Timberland Twister (***) - Surprisingly fun for a small, indoor coaster.

Pepsi Ripsaw Roller Coaster (*) - Like a monorail with hills.

Paul Bunyan's Log Chute (**) - A couple nice drops for an indoor flume, and best of all, I barely got wet.

    Knott's Berry Farm:
Silver Bullet (*****) - Excellent hanging coaster, you spend about as much time upside down as right side up.

Boomerang (**) - Just a painful, jarring experience with little thrill. Lacks the smooth speed of new steel coasters.

Xcelerator (*****) - Excellent instant start coaster. Not only an epic 90 degree vertical launch up the first hill at 80 mph but this ride even included a few more hills and twists before pulling back into the station.

GhostRider (**) - Incredibly long for a wooden coaster but probably the roughest coaster ride I'll have this season. Felt like it was gonna jump the track.

Jaguar (*) - Suitable for pregnant women with heart conditions, wouldn't recommend it for any other thrill seekers.

Montezooma's Revenge (**) - I was surprised that this was an instant start coaster, but there's not much to it besides going through the same loop twice.

In A North Star State Of Mind
    Justin, 5/11/2007 12:06:27 AM
So some random tidbits for anyone daring to read this.

1.)Its finale season folks! Some have come and gone already...30 Rock's bittersweet sendoff... Earl goes to jail on My Name Is Earl...and I still have House (have you heard the teachings of Greg House yet? If not, I have some literature you should look at.), Lost (if you haven't heard, I too have been sucked in), Scrubs (J.D./Elliot is back!), and of course THE OFFICE to look forward too. Which brings me to
2.)The Office this season has been a joy to watch. Less Jim and they faltered slightly at times with too over the top Michael/Dwight storylines, but the real story this season has been Jenna Fischer. I don't think I've ever been this emotionally invested in an actors work. Her walking the coals/courage speech was just another moment that might as well have had "for your emmy consideration" plastered all over the bottom of the screen. Beautiful performance.
Plus the scenes of the whole gang singing "The Gambler" and the Flintstones theme were priceless while poor Toby Flenderson walked around the office by all by himself instead of seeing Pam in a two-piece. The background players have really made it great once again...More great Kelly Kapoor/Ryan Howard scenes (the disgusted look Ryan gave when she didn't know who Bob Hope was hilarious), and more wackiness from my own personal VIP of the season Creed. Ladies and gentlemen give him credit...hes been known to hang brain from time to time.
Theres just not enough verbs for this show. The story has been fantastic with the Pam/Jim line playing out realistically over 3 season. How many shows can do something like that without it becoming repetitive and ridiculous with a make up/break up/misunderstanding plot device? Of course logically they should get together at this point and the second half of the series should play towards where that relationship goes, but I digress. Anyways.
3.)The CD "You Can Hold Me Down" has not left my CD player for 3 days. Its from William Tell, formerly of Something Corporate, and it is absolutely infectious. Which brings me to
4.)Mike and I will tentatively be seeing William Tell with Ozma next Friday night in San Francisco on our vacation. But first we're hitting up Minnesota to check out the Mall Of America for a couple days, followed by a couple days in Los Angeles area before we wrap up in San Francisco. So hopefully we'll check in from the road. Until then, remember, the secret ingredient is crime.

    Return To Anthropomorphic World!
    Justin, 5/6/2007 02:47:19 PM
So Friday night as a surprise I took Michelle down to Disney World for her birthday...we had exactly one day there and I had to be back for work this morning...so how much can you do in one day you ask?

A lot. MGM Studios was the park that had an extra "magic hour" yesterday. This means it opened at 8:00 AM for Disney Resort guests only. So Michelle was all like go and I'll sleep in. And go I went.
I was able to simply walk from our hotel (The Boardwalk Inn) in ten minutes. When I arrived I was greated by a giant bulge of people at the end of main street. Apparently this is how the Disney Pros do it. They all get to the park as it opens and then stand there until the opening announcement...then everyone comically power walks to the best rides so they can ride once and pick up a fast pass to get on again before thousands of people fill the parks up and you have to wait an hour to do anything good.

So this is how my hour went.
7:57 - Arrive in park, wait in crowd...power walk to Aerosmith's Rock N Roller Coaster.

8:11 - Sitting in the FIRST coaster of the day!
    8:14 - Coaster done.
8:26-8:30 - Twilight Zone Tower Of Terror.
    8:41-8:48 - Star Tours
9:05-9:20 - Muppet Vision 3-D! (and this only took more time because I had to wait for the previous show to get done.)

So that was MGM. Then I went over and met Michelle and we went over to Epcot for some breakfast and to get fast passes for Soarin' for later...then off to the Magical Kingdom!

    Magic Kingdom we rode:
Pirates Of The Caribbean (now featuring Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow)
    The Haunted Mansion
    Splash Mountain
    Mickeys Philharmagic
    Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor
    Buzz Lightyear's Astro Blasters

Then we had to go back to the hotel...because when we were going into Monsters Inc. the moron guy shut the door on Michelle's toe and took off half the nail and bloodied her up.
But she fought through the pain so we could go do some Epcot.
    Epcot we hit
Soarin' (AMAZING! A Simulated hang gliding adventure of California.)
    The Living Seas With Nemo
    Test Track

And finally we got to enjoy the Illuminations fireworks/lazer show at Epcot to end out the day at the parks before we hit up the Yachtsmans Steak House for dinner.
So all in all not bad for a days work.
    Happy birthday Michelle!

    Spiderman 3: Pre-review
    Mike, 5/3/2007 02:36:15 PM
For a change of pace, I've decided to review Spiderman 3 before I see it... we'll see how close I come when I formulate my real review.

So, without further ado, here is my speculative review, based on previews, intuition, and the Burger King cup in front of me.

    Spiderman 3: 3/5
While Spiderman 3 is an action-packed visual treat, the plot is a throwback to superhero disasters like Batman Forever and Batman & Robin. Too many villains, too much crap going on. Waiting through a battle with Sandman when you know Venom is on deck is downright tortuous. Also, the progression of the alien costume's influence is just too quick; in the comic the black costume was around for quite awhile before Peter Parker realized he had to get rid of it. The ever eye-popping Kirsten Dunst feels more tacked on than ever; why doesn't Spiderman just lock her in a safehouse and throw away the key? How many times can she get kidnapped? Nevertheless, despite all these barbs, to see Venom up on the big screen in all his symbiotic glory was worth the price of admission and this combat filled franchise still knows the best way to kick off the summer movie season: with mindless violence and a few explosions!

Well, I think I was pretty close, but my post-movie review is now also up.
