Hello internet
Mike, 4/20/2009 01:22:41 PM
The year started out so well. I was posting. I had good intentions. Then I just let it all slip away. Fortunately (or not?), I haven't abandoned the internet altogether. I've recently been getting into the Yelp! subculture. You can find my Yelp reviews here:

I am going to try to review one restaurant a day from my backlog starting now. Today. We'll see how long that lasts.

I encourage you to join Yelp too so we can be Yelp friends.

How The Mighty Have Fallen

Looks like Drive Thru Records isn't doing so hot. Check out this sign Houston Calls is displaying at their recent concerts:

Anyways Houston Calls is a pretty awesome catchy as hell band, I suggest checking them out on myspace or going to the store (or ITUNES) and buying their compact disc or something. Or download it illegally then go see them live. I don't care.

But this also reminds me of how much I loved all the DTR bands just a few short years ago. They were ruling their niche in the industry. Home Grown, The Starting Line, Something Corporate, New Found Glory, RX Bandits, Midtown, Fenix TX, and of course my favorite and yours, Allister. Then they just kinda faded away into a shadow of their former selves after Geffen Records took most of the bands. Sad. Then the Fall Out Boy driven Fueled By Ramen seemed to take over the niche as the go to pop punk label. I guess I can't complain, I got The Academy Is... out of that one. Pop punk's just not the same for me anymore though. I can't remember the last new bands CD I picked up and just started humming along too. Which begs the question...have the bands gotten suckier, or have I just gotten older and changed my taste? Thats the million dollar question I guess. Good luck Houston Calls, you are going to need it.

Tastes change on a micro and macro level. As a record company, I don't think you can sit still with one niche genre; perhaps that is doubly true as a music listener.
