Black Friday Breakdown
Justin, 11/25/2007 04:45:55 PM
Well another Black Friday has come and gone and Mike should have the specs from this one up in the next day or so. But I thought I'd take some time to take a look at back at all the great times and entertaining events to happen on my favorite day of the year.
So I now present to you all...

Top Ten Black Friday Moments

10.Finnigans Wake - 2005 - I've always loved going to Finnigan's Wake, pretty much my favorite bar...but to have the strength...nay the courage, to walk in there and drink and rock with The Loop after having been up and running around since 5:00 AM that morning was a real moment of personal triumph.

9.Graceful Exit - 2003 - Love Actually was sold out when we went to see it on Thanksgiving. So accompanied by Joe, Connie, and Jamie we tried to see it again on BF. Again it was sold out. So we all went to Joe's house and they popped in Bad Boys 2. Within minutes we were all falling asleep. So Jamie, Mike, said we were going to go home and go to sleep. Then we saw Love Actually's next showtime instead.

8.Touch Football - 2007 - TW invited us to his annual family reunion with finger foods/touch football game in 2005, but we declined. This year we went and we got to witness people playing touch football in shorts in November. Maybe next year we'll actually play!

7.Saves The Day - 2002 - The only time theres been a concert worth seeing around here on a Black Friday was when Saves The Day played Lancaster's Chameleon Club in 02...And they brough the damn house down with an electric set during this "Stay What You Are" era tour...plenty of Through Being Cool classics, and nothing slow and plodding to slow the show. Total rockage.

6.Delaware, 3:00 AM - 2007 - RJ, waiting on his sister to give birth and unable to participate in a full days activities, conceded to meeting us at 3:00 AM at Christiana Mall for there "Rockin' Shopping Eve". I wonder how many sticks of butter he was at by the time we had to walk out of Denny's because of employee incompetence.

5.Parade Of Guest Stars - 01, 02, 03, 04, 05, 07 - The great thing about this day (besides the doorbuster sales) seems to be the involvement of our many friends. From people we see once a year, to people we see every week, its great to lure other people into our insanity. So thanks to Joe, Connie, Jamie, Eugene, RJ, TW, TW's sister, R. Todd, Moira, Brian, and anyone else whose ever been there for hanging out with us the day after Thanksgiving.

4.Just Friends - 2005 - I can't help it...I love that damn movie!

3.DVD Player Victory - 2001 - The whole BF event was ignited by one Circuit City ad 7 years ago...The item? A DVD player. The (at the time) amazingly low price? 70.00. And so as I scrambled into the store and pounced on one of the last few preciously (at the time) cheap boxes, a feeling came over me...the feeling that I had never truly lived until that moment.

2.Five Movies Ticket Purchase - 2004 - To describe the look on the clerks face as we each bought tickets to 5 different movies in one day I'd need an entire Thesaurus. The one best word to use though is probably bewilderment. And maybe annoyance. At any rate 5 movies, 1 day has been attempted since, duplicated never...and its probably best that way.

1.Target Riot - 2003 - As we pushed our way over and through other shoppers in a mad dash to the electronics section with me screaming "WHERES THE 17 DOLLAR DVD PLAYERS?!?!?!?" To every worker I saw and then grabbing one as other people became aware of the price through my insane shouts, something happened. You could see the look in the peoples eyes...something snapped within them. They became like one incensed mob entity seeking only cheap DVD players like a Zombie would seek brains. Too bad a couple seconds later I discovered there were indeed no 17 dollar DVD players. I hope no one was hurt because of my assumption. Oh well.

Half A Year To Accomplish The Greatest Feat One Can Accomplish As A Man
Justin, 11/17/2007 01:43:52 AM
I come to you all today with grave news of the future. As you all know, we are still 5+ months away from Summer Movie Season. And that means we are 6+ months away from May 30, 2008.
This is the day that Sex And The City: The Movie hits theaters. That's right. We all thought the nightmarish adventures of 4 ugly clucking women were over. A show once referred to by Family Guy (AND RIGHTLY SO) as being about 3 hookers and their mom. That's right, Horse Face (Sarah Jessica Parker), Leather Face (Kim Cattrall), Hair Blind (I dunno her name, you know the Blindingly red headed chick), and Sorta Hot One With The Weird Neck (Kristin Davis) will all be back reprising their roles.
I just can't take it. It makes me wanna throw up more than Gwen Stefani's music, and you all know how much I hate her music. I can't take all the girls I ever met blathering incessantly about how this show shows them how to be independent women and how to be fashionable, because it's just the worst thing I've ever seen.
So here now, I implore to you, for the next 6 months, this website will serve as ground zero and base for me hating on Sex And The City!
Join me one and all... I proclaim now.... ZERO DOMESTIC GROSS FOR THIS MOVIE! We couldn't do it to You Got Served, but we can do it this time! Well at least no money from dudes.
More to come.

Youtube Is Magic
Justin, 11/10/2007 01:57:08 AM
You know whats awesome? The motherfucking opening sequence to G.I. Joe The Movie. For 3 minutes and 7 seconds G.I. Joe battles Cobra in an air battle
around the Statue Of Liberty using JETPACKS!
The main crux of the fight centers around Cobra Commander trying to blow up the Statue with a silly looking countdown clock bomb (handed to him by my personal favorite, DESTRO!) But Duke foils him, and of course CC yells retreat with a crazy hokey split screen going on.
Of course the truly best part is the extended alternate version of the G.I. Joe theme blasting the entire time. But don't take my word for it...watch it for yourself here:

Maybe I'll buy the DVD tomorrow. Lord knows my VHS copy isn't going to cut the mustard forever.
YO JOE!

Writer's Strike
Mike, 11/6/2007 04:49:15 PM
Today I just realized that scripted television is one of my favorite things... and it's now endangered. With the writers on strike, the clock is ticking before new shows start to run out. Fortunately, a few years ago, I packed a strike preparedness kit. Let's open it up and see what's in it:

- One copy of Bad Boys 2 on DVD which I assumed I'd never watch
- Atlas Shrugged, Ayn Rand's 1200 page objectivist epic
- One cyanide capsule
- Baseball bat and glove. Hmm... not sure what I was thinking with this. I'm not gonna go outside and play a sport. Maybe I can smash something.
- Snood. Damn you, slantytown!
- One ship in a bottle kit

AAAaahhh dammit studios, just meet their demands!!!

My Holiday Present List!
Justin, 11/2/2007 01:48:08 PM
It seems no one ever knows what to get me for the Holiday season because I hate specifically asking for things, and because I usually just end up buying whatever for myself before anyone else can get to it...so I'm making it easier on everyone this year and posting some stuff I would enjoy. This is in addition to the always welcome gift of TV Shows on DVD Box Sets, of which I always need some. If you want to know whats on my list there, I'll just throw a couple out there...Seinfeld Seasons 8 and 9, Simpsons Season 9 and 10, NewsRadio Season 5, South Park Season 10, The OC Season 4, etc. etc.

So heres my want list. Its by no means everything in the world I want, just some suggested things I might like...keep an open mind towards surprising me entirely with something not on the list at all!

  • From Mike on 11/3/2007:
I guess the deeper question this year is: will this be the year that people run out and buy HD/Blu-Ray dvd players.

Toshiba HD-A2 HD DVD is only $142 on Amazon at the moment, and apparently Walmart had it on sale for $99 for a brief period of time this Friday. Blu-ray on the other hand, seems to be hovering at $400 for the players... unless anybody sees a cheaper one advertised?
  • From Mike on 11/4/2007:
Upon further inspection, HD-DVD is tanking. Wait for the Blu-Ray price drop.
