For some reason I sense that Mike and Justin are in mourning...but now that mike isn't going out on black friday, i just don't know what to think anymore...
  • From Justin on 12/4/2006:
I'm only in mourning because I miss you RJ...but next Black Friday will be different. In fact the whole Thanksgiving holiday will be different...Because we're hoping to spend the holiday in a more serene, familial setting...The mid-west with Brian M. Davis and his family...eating what might possibly be the biggest and best Thanksgiving spread on earth (based on conjecture and hearsay).

    Sowing Season
    Mike, 11/27/2006 03:42:17 PM
I'm not a real slave to habit when I do homework. Any time, location, or environment will usually suffice. Sometimes I listen to music while I work, but I'm not the type of person who must listen to Bach's Keyboard Concerto Number 1 in D minor-- I usually just throw on the music I would listen to in any other circumstance.

Last night, I put on Brand New's The Devil and God are Raging Inside Me. Surprisingly, I found that this CD totally disrupted all my thought processes. Its continual rising and falling from acoustic whisper to screaming rock seemed to leave my concentration completely broken... also I kept reaching for the remote control to raise or lower the volume accordingly so as not to annoy my roommate. I'm wonder if Brand New has just completed an acoustic weapon? Perhaps this CD could be used to end hostage standoffs...

My Black Friday away from myself
    Mike, 11/24/2006 05:17:53 PM
So, for the first time in several years, I didn't hit the stores at 5 AM this Black Friday, in fact, I didn't go out much at all. Of course, Justin was working today and there weren't really any good deals I was interested in. But, it wasn't a total loss, here's a few things I did do:

    - Saw two movies on Thanksgiving
    - Went over to CompUSA at 9PM last night and saw the massive line to get in. The store didn't even have PS3s or Wiis.
    - Watched Spy Hard
    - Watched Cursed
    - Went to Target and bought a couple of cheap DVDs
    - Hung out in Justin's office

While we're at it, let's have a moment of silence for those poor GameStop and Best Buy employees who had to work the release of PS3 and Wii and Black Friday all within the span of 7 days. The perfect storm. I'm surprised we haven't read stories about suicide pacts.

It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Thanksgiving... All Through The Town
    Justin, 11/22/2006 12:28:27 AM
Ah Thanksgiving, my favorite holiday as many as you know...of course Tgiving doesn't get the props that Christmas does, but a few brave shows have ventured into the subject, usually to hilarious results...so I now present to you, my Thanksgiving day gift...

Top Ten Thanksgiving Themed Episodes Of TV Ever!:

10.Mad About You - "The Thanksgiving Show" - This was Mike's pick to pad out the list, so maybe he can bring more to the table on this one than I can...although I did notice that Fred Willard guest starred, so it musta been the fuckin jet.

9.That 70's Show - "Thanksgiving" - Eric's sister Laurie brings home her hot college buddy for the holiday and she sleeps in Eric's room...and tries to seduce young Forman much to Donna's chagrin...and wackiness ensues! Plus everyone forgets to pick up grandma for dinner(I know that feeling all too well)!

8.Perfect Strangers - "Wild Turkey" - On Thanksgiving, Larry goes into the turkey selling business with over 100 turkeys roaming their
backyard and one of the turkeys may have eaten Jennifer's wedding ring!

7.The OC - "The Homecoming" - This first season gem from back when the show was good brought laughter, Adam Brody getting to make out with
both Samaire Armstrong AND Rachel Bilson in an almost Three's Company-esque situation, and Ryan being all bad ass in Chino.

6.Friends - "The One With The Rumor" - Of course Friends has the most proficient TV/Thanksgiving history, with a Thanksgiving theme ep being featured every season...of course there was the one where Joey gets his head stuck inside a Turkey, and the one where Chandlers inside of a box for most of the episode, but this is the one that makes number 6 on my list...Jennifer Aniston's real life husband Brad Pitt guest stars as Rachels old high school enemy who had an "I hate Rachel" club with non other than...Ross! Oh the hilarity! They even started a rumor that she was a hermaphrodite! Plus Joey tries to eat an entire 19 lb bird. Pay attention kids, theres more Friends to come...

5.South Park - "Starvin' Marvin" - The boys from South Park accidentally receive a starving Ethiopian boy from Sally Struthers instead of a
digital watch...plus the insane Dr. Mephestos mutant turkeys attack the town leading to a hilarious Braveheart spoof...truly an early
indication of South Parks insane scripts that could go anywhere at anytime.

4.Seinfeld - "The Mom And Pop Store" - Madcap hijinx! Kramer tries to save a Mom and Pop store with Jerry's shoes and gets attacked by Jon Voight! Meanwhile George thinks he has bought Voight's used car, Elaine hooks Mr. Pitt up with holding a Woody Woodpecker balloon in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, and Jerry pops the balloon accidentally when he crashes Tim Whatley's Thanksgiving party...sigh...I miss Seinfeld. The most consistently funny show ever.

3.Scrubs - "My Day Off" - JD and Turk have off for Turkey Day...but JD ends up back at the hospital with appendicitis! Plus Elliot has
really cold hands. Eventually Turk operates on JD, and then everyone sneaks JD out of the hospital to the bar for funderful Thanksgiving drink.

2.Aqua Teen Hunger Force - "The Dressing" - Meatwad is sent to invite Carl to the Aqua Teens Thanksgiving celebration and Carl decides to
join them...from the lawn where there are witnesses. But dinner is ruined when the The Cybernetic Ghost of Christmas Past from the Future returns as Turkitron, a robotic turkey sent to the past to save the great great
great great great grandfather of 'Goblox', the future leader of the turkey rebellion against the Master Chickens....and of course it all ends
with Carl being killed. Classic... ANTI-TACO LEGISLATION!

1.Friends - "The One With The Football" - While the Turkey finishes the Friends engage in a friendly game of touch football with Team Monica battling Team Ross...that degenerates into a bloodthirsty battle for the Gellar Cup Trophy that had supposedly been thrown into a lake when they were younger because they couldn't get along...this one has it all, as the 6 main characters spend 22 minutes in the same place and all try to one up each other with hilarious results.

And that concludes our list...Happy Thanksgiving everybody!
  • From michellem on 11/22/2006:
I would have to disagree on this one --Charlie Brown Thanksgiving would be a classic and deserves some recognition on here. In addition- I believe Full House also had some good turkey day eps through its years on tv.

    Deep Thoughts With Jack Handey
    Justin, 11/22/2006 12:02:54 AM
Hey motherfuckers whats up??? Heres some random thoughts to fill your brain with.

1.Who out there doesn't dig wwsg's new Grimace motif? Nothing can kill the Grimace.

2.I fucking hate it when Americans play British people...I'm looking at you Renee Zellweggar.

3.But I enjoy it when Brits play Americans...thanks Hugh Laurie.

4.We have surpassed 100 setlists in the setlist archive!!! Thanks no one, you've been no help!
    Yay me!

5.I'm sick of working at a mall! Everytime I walk in to the mall I'm accosted by people with accents working at the "Dead Sea Salts" kiosks who wish to rub lotion on my hands and consistently ask the question: "Excuse me, can I ask you just one question?" Get a new fucking sales pitch! And I walk past you 2-3 times a day every day! I WORK AT THE MALL! QUIT BOTHERING ME WHEN I'M CLEARLY ONLY INTERESTED IN GETTING A BEVERAGE IN ECKERD OR READING AN ENTIRE COMIC BOOK IN BORDERS TO KILL TIME WHILE I'M ON THE CLOCK!

    A rival to Black Friday?
    Mike, 11/19/2006 08:20:27 PM
Cyber Monday is the Monday following Thanksgiving. This has grown to be a huge day for online sales. Because much of the population shops online while at work, they wait until Monday, and avoid the Black Friday crowds and order the items online. Because of this huge trend, many retailers are now targeting this day for extra sales, and now Cyber Monday has become a huge online shopping day in itself.

    The Only True Trilogy
    Justin, 11/15/2006 11:05:11 PM
Randal Graves: All right look, there's only one return, okay, and it ain't "of the King," it's "of the Jedi."
Hobbit Lover: Oh, Star Wars geek.
Randal Graves: Oh, i'm the geek? Look at you two whipping out your preciouses.
Elias: You'll have to excuse him, he's not "down" with the trilogy.
Randal Graves: Oh, what the fuck happened to this world. There's only one trilogy you fucking morons.
Hobbit Lover: You know what, maybe we should start calling your friend Padme, 'cause he loves Manakin Skywalker so much, right?
    [in robot voice]
Hobbit Lover: Danger danger, my name is Anakin. My shitty acting is ruining saga.
Elias: [chucking] Yeah, you're crazy Jar-Jar.
Randal Graves: Oh, I'm crazy? Those fuckin' hobbit movies were boring as hell. All it was, was a bunch of people walking, three movies of people walking to a fucking volcano.

And while Randal Graves did indeed make some valid points, he did happen to leave out any reference to the real true trilogy of cinema...
Ladies and gentleman, I give you...The Mighty Ducks Trilogy.

The premise:Down and out Gordon Bombay (the legendary Emilio Estevez) is a washed out hockey player who gets assigned a trouble making team of pee-wee hockey players led by Pacey from Dawson's Creek (and also including Little Pete from The Adventures Of Pete And Pete and a young Marguerite Moreau). Using what limited skills the brat packer possesses, he molds the young kids until they are good enough to win the big championship game against the better, less respectful opposite team at the end. Everyone celebrates. Queens "We Are The Champions" gets played...
But no, the Ducks journey wasn't done there...They Would return in the very appropriately nomenclatured D2:The Mighty Ducks. This time Emiliooooo and co head off to the Junior Goodwill Games as Team USA, where they are joined by a couple of stereotypical kids from around the country, including Kenan from Nickelodeon's All That and Kenan And Kel (and future SNLer), a cowboy Texan, and a hispanic kid from Miami. This creates all sorts of wacky hijinx among the new teammates. But of course Team USA pulls together, finds the eye of the tiger, and defeats the EVIL Team Iceland in the finals to win the gold!
But yet their mystical journey was still not over...they still had but one more challenge ahead of them...and it came in D3: The Mighty Ducks.
In the final installment of the trilogy, the Ducks are awarded scholarships to Eden Hall Academy, Coach Bombays prestigious old Alma Mater. There they come into conflict with their NEW COACH (GASP!)Ted Orion, and the Varsity Team...The new coach strips them off their quacks and Pacey of his captainship...But eventually the two bond, and Pacey (well Charlie in the Ducks movies) stops whining like a little bitch.
Eventually the Varsity team meets the Ducks in a CATACLYSMIC showdown...If the Varsity team wins, the Ducks are expelled...if the Ducks win, they are the new Varsity team. And in the closing second of the game Charlie sacks up and doesn't take the game winning shot, instead surprisingly passing the puck to the big fat guy Goldberg (remember that kid???), who scores the winning goal!
Now the great thing about the Ducks trilogy, was that there was no annoying "going the distance in Rocky fashion movie", it was that they won in the end of every movie (probably because no one at the time was like, "hey lets make another movie!", and figured they should win out in the end.). In fact the only true low point in the series was probably the homoerotic undertones of the "Bash Brothers" in the latter two flicks. But I digress. I mean how many other movies resulted in a real life sports franchise?
And so ladies and gentleman, I give to you the greatest trilogy ever...The Mighty Ducks.

    A Long Overdue Post!
    Justin, 11/13/2006 02:31:53 PM
Some people are like Justin, you seem to be very picky with where you drink. And this is true. A bar is usually just a bar...I like some other entertainment with my booze. So here is a Top 5 list of my favorite watering holes worldwide, in no particular order.

1.Finnigan's Wake - Philadelphia, PA - Always a vaguely entertaining cover band and a crowd of hot drunk college chicks to be found!

2.Absolut Ice Bar - London, UK - Its a freakin' bar made of ice! And the Vodka shooters are pretty damn good too...what more do you need?

3.Thirsty Dog - Federal Hill; Baltimore, MD - Great thin crust pizza, awesome micro brewed beer that costs 3.00 for 2 glasses, and your allowed to bring dogs inside!

4.Howl At The Moon - Power Plant Live; Baltimore, MD - The main drinking area in Baltimore for bachelorette parties has many bar chains located in it, but this is the crown jewel...a freakin' dueling pianos bar. I don't know why I think its so much fun there, it just is. But don't ask Mike to go there

5.Frog And Onion Pub - Royal Naval Dockyard; King's Wharf, Bermuda - Superfun bar with a room for dancing, plenty of tasty food, and its directly across from a movie theater...if your cruise ship docks here feel free to roam in and out all night.

I mean I'm no expert or anything, and theres still a hundred thousand other bars on earth for me to visit, but those are just some of my favorites. Anyone have any suggestions on a wacky cool bar somewhere that I just can't go another minute living without checking out?

    Take The Hugh Jackman Challenge!
    Justin, 11/1/2006 04:24:22 PM
Well loyal subjects Halloween is over, and we have reached the stretch run of the Fall/Holiday movie season...And this season brings us more of Hugh Jackman than ever before...
will you see him in all 4 of his movies?
    The Prestige - Out Now
    Flushed Away - November 3
    Happy Feet - November 17
    The Fountain - November 22...
plus X-Men:The Last Stand is out now on DVD...So round out the group with that!
And while Jackman is no Jude Law circa Fall '04, he certainly is more enjoyable to watch on the screen...And speaking of Jude, you can see him in The Holiday this December 8.

But none of this really matters...What DOES mater is that you all go see Sacha Baron Cohen's Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan on Friday!!!
  • From Mike on 11/1/2006:
For those of you that don't remember the season of Jude Law, straight from the way-back machine is our original post. I know I saw all 6... but I'm not sure if I can give Hugh Jackman the same respect since I think one of his movies involves animated 3D computer creatures.
  • From Justin on 11/1/2006:
Actually 2 do...Happy Feet and Flushed Away...I guess I was kind of grasping for straws on this one, but I couldn't find anyone with 5 movies or more this season.
